The Two Styles We Teach
At Cornett’s Secret Art of Praying Mantis Kung Fu, we combine two powerful martial arts systems—Jook Lum Temple Chinese Boxing and Dillman Karate International (DKI). This unique blend provides students with both traditional Kung Fu techniques and modern pressure point applications, making our system highly effective for self-defense, combat, and overall martial arts mastery.
Jook Lum Temple Chinese Boxing
At our school in Nashville, TN, we specialize in Jook Lum Temple Chinese Boxing, a Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu system that originated as a secretive Chinese martial art. This rare and highly effective system focuses on:
✅ Short-range power and rapid striking
✅ Internal energy (Chi Kung) development
✅ Highly effective trapping, joint locks, sweeping, and knockouts
A Legacy of Power & Precision
This style traces its origins back to the Bamboo Forest Temple in Jiangxi Province, China, during the early 1800s. Som Dot, a Buddhist monk, developed this system after studying the praying mantis' swift, calculated movements and incorporating them into traditional Kung Fu techniques. His method was so effective that he quickly gained recognition, leading to the creation of Jook Lum Temple Praying Mantis Kung Fu.
This style follows the principle:
"Nothing for show, everything for use."
Practitioners are trained to strike first and continuously until the threat is neutralized:
"Hand to hand, heart to heart. You don't come, I won't start. You start, I hit you first and continuously until I see red (blood)."

Dillman Karate International (DKI) – The Science of Pressure Points
In addition to Jook Lum Temple Chinese Boxing, our system integrates Dillman Karate International (DKI), a combat-tested martial arts system founded by 10th Degree Grand Master George Dillman. This style is known for its scientific approach to striking, utilizing:
✅ Pressure point manipulation (Dim Mak)
✅ The Cycle of Destruction (striking vital areas for maximum damage)
✅ Advanced joint locks, arm bars, chokes, and limited ground fighting
